Looptober 7: Microtonal Study

More microtonal experiments (also in 18 note Sims tuning), almost to the point of an etude / composing practice. Was really useful for me working out the microtonal vs just intonation melodies, hopefully it's still interesting to listen to.

A consistent microtonal alternating arppeggiating 16th note pulse, where each measure, one note in the arpeggio changes, slowing morphing to a standard just intonation tuning and back, with a driving drum beat in the back.

Looptober 8: Ballad

Gonna see how long I can work with this particular microtone scale, it's close enough to a normal major scale that I feel like a can control the amount of "off-ness" the song has at any point.

A piano plays microtonal chords in an AABC structure. A slow, vaporwave-esque drum sample comes in with strings in the lower register, and a flute with the melody comes in on the final verse repetition.

Looptober 9: Mystery Box

It took me until now to discover that you can loop things across cycles with `{7 0 -7}%16`, and it just goes. Could have used that in some shows.

A spooky, slightly off-tune and reversed-sounding bell plays arpeggios the whole time. A jungle-like drum chop of the amen break underneath, with a high, faster 16th note arpeggio square wave comes on top.

Looptober 10: Anxiety Bounce

Starting to loose my grasp on if these are even good at all, but I will Post Through It.

A bass and several synths not quite in tune play straight quarter notes, with a spacey ping bouncing around at the end of the section. A chopped drum break comes in at the end

Looptober 11: Wavetable Testing

Played around with some wavetables this time, after actually learning about them at the Live Code Boston meeting tonight!

techno, a heavy bassline with a harmony line with a warbling sound. A sampled mystery theater voice says "I don't know anything about computers, about computers"

Looptober 12: LFOs

I am giving up on actual titles, sticking with just describing the thing I focused on the most in the piece. This one I prepped by going through Glossing's "You can modulate everything" tutorial, which really did help, the reference isn't as useful for those functions because they're so different from the rest of strudel.

A driving, distorted bass drum and drone linger in a minor key. A phrygian melody in a crushed-sounding chiptune synth jumps and steps around after a bit.
