@molly0xfff I used to sternly say "pop!" into the mic. Same idea.

@molly0xfff I’ve always wanted to try this! But I’m cheap and dunno if my cats would be bothered. I’ve taken to snapping my fingers in front of the mic to mark good takes instead.

Which works in terms of making a waveform, but also makes my fingers tired really fast.

@molly0xfff ...what about a rubber chicken squawk instead?

@molly0xfff but is it conditioning ·you· to make fewer mistakes? 😜

@molly0xfff Maybe if you give your dog a treat every time, your dog will be trained to know when you mess up a take.

@molly0xfff I'm talking out of my ass because I haven't recorded a podcast in years (despite being squarely in the demographic) and have used a clicker in the past.
But it's 2026 and it should be standard practice to have timecode and the ability to create markers that show up in the editing software. At least when someone else is editing.

@molly0xfff Reminds me of the old days when we would slate when filming to make it easy to sync video camera footage with external audio. (No slate? Just clap loudly!)

@molly0xfff lol yep I got the same advice in a voice acting class and it is so good.

@molly0xfff your dog will be an expert at trimming clips in Audacity in no time

@molly0xfff or just rewinding to about a sentence before you cocked up, start a new track, roll and go, then at the editing stage just cross fade in a gap between words. Makes matching the “state” of your voice and any room tone a doddle because it’s all done in the same session and your voice is in damn near exactly the same state because so little time has elapsed between takes.

@molly0xfff

I sometimes hear people forget to edit them out of their recordings and I like that. I'm like "thank you, yes, I am being good!"

@molly0xfff you could also use a classic clown horn, the outtake reels would be awesome

Too much burden for Atlas 🌎

@molly0xfff you can also just clap or slap the desk
