Stymied by age verification before 08:00 today :(
I rarely use reddit, but occasionally that is where a search result leads.
I have no reason to want an account just to read stuff, so I don't have a reddit account.
I also won't do age verification.
I've used old.reddit.com, when main reddit has asked for age verification.
But no longer: old reddit requires an account.
Oh well.
@neil It seems like you can still paste the reddit link into the WayBack Machine at archive.org, at least with the one random post that I tried.
I don't recall any age verification checks on my reddit account, but maybe that's because the account is old enough to drive anyway...
@neil Worse the UK may force Reddit to do passport checks...
@neil does it do that if you are visiting from somewhere like the USA?
@neil Old Reddit requiring accounts is specifically because of LLM scraping. (NSFW subreddits have been login-gated for a while, and now require age verification in the UK.)
RSS feeds are also going away (which is very annoying as I subscribe to a couple to keep up with some software communities).
@neil it was probably to stop dumb AI scrapers. AI ruins everything
@neil I'm not in the UK so I dunno if it'll work, but I've been using the Fx old.reddit plugin to get around the new design. worth a try?
Interesting. I had not heard of that. Thank you.
I don't use reddit that much, so a specific add-on feels like a bit much, but that is very welcome information all the same.

@neil If you're desperate to view something, I've found redlib.catsarch.com is a helpful proxy. I set my browser to auto-redirect reddit.com there, and it's worked great so far. Hopefully it doesn't get taken down like nitter.
