Broke my phone somehow. Refuse to get a new one so am using one of the kids very very old iphones. It. Is. Maddening. I can’t do anything. No apps will download & I can’t do anything without 2fa being an actual nightmare. I hate it very much. I hope Tim iPhones is having a terrible evening. Is there such a thing as a cheap new smartphone that doesn’t steal your data? Can you Graphene an iphone?
@TheBreadmonkey
The way to beat high tech is to use low tech. My I suggest carrier pigeons
@TheBreadmonkey I always buy refurbished, slightly older model iphones - never had a problem.
@TheBreadmonkey Tom Apple retired. It's now some nameless dude running it.
@TheBreadmonkey I went through the anticipation then disappointment at finding that Graphene only works on Pixels at the moment - my entire intention is to give Google the finger so why the hell would I want to use their hardware, of all things?!?
There are other options through Murena and e/OS and phones from that German company whose name I've now forgotten. I have a list of links somewhere.
If you just need a cheap simple phone, I recently got a TCL from Argos for £120 which is actually surprisingly good.
@TheBreadmonkey If you currently use iPhone then switch to Android you’ll lose all your apps. And probably a load of your data.
If your phone is unrepairable, your best bet is to buy a refurbished replacement. Anything after iPhone 11 is currently supported on iOS 27. GiffGaff will sell you a refurbished iPhone 12 for £169. If your old phone is Android, they have a refurbished Samsung S21 for £149.
Graphene only on Pixel series at the moment (Motorolas expected early 2027).
Buy a pixel 9a or pixel 10 series used and graphene it.
@TheBreadmonkey is there any place near you that repairs iPhones/electronics? We have them here but they aren’t everywhere.
@TheBreadmonkey
I purchased an old model Pixel Pro from ebay with a view to converting it to Graphene, but have yet to actually install the new OS owing to a combination of laziness and fear that it will ultimately prove frustrating for me.
There will come a day, soon I think, where I get so annoyed with Google trying to ram AI down my throat that I will abandon Android altogether.
