Under what conditions should copyright-protected content be used for AI training?

The AI-companies have enough money to pay royalties.
I expect legal prosecution of copyright-violations at least as rigorously as against children copying games or music in the past. Because these companies are doing this, fully aware of the copyright infringements. It’s effectively, state-sanctions organized crime.

@EUCommission For me it's fine to use copyright-protected work for research as long as there is a reference to that work. For AI training absolutely not. AI basically redistributes everything it was trained on so it's copyright violation.
@EUCommission isn't just asking the question already showing the influence of the money? i thought we have copyright protection. what for, if you ask this question now?

Teach children how to live in this world. Fill them with knowledge and fully invest in their future.
Make machines to clean up dangerous messes left by adults who weren't taught how to live in this world.
AI is a distraction from the real work.

Under fucking none.
Give AI the knowledge how to create something new.
Not the hodge-podge of already-existing creations.
Alphabet is not copyright-protected, you know. Nor are rules and principles of reading and writing in some language.
@EUCommission First off: I'd much rather see the ludicrous amounts of funding and resources being put towards LLMs (what is now being called "AI") instead go to better uses. Like ensuring that humanity has a future we can enjoy!
But to make a less radical proposal: I want LLM vendors to ask us for our writing, code, & other art rather than overwhelming our systems taking it by force.
Then again I'm not European, you don't have to listen to me.

Now, some people will say we can't have double standards on copyright violation - but that is invalid. The EU regularly operates double standards when western civilisation is at stake - for example, Israel and the 80 year war crimes and genocide of Palestine.
