Cyclist mindset:
don’t do it
oh no, please don’t do it
oh shit, you’re gonna do it.
The utterly clueless
pedestrian did it.
Luckily for them,
I anticipated they
were going to do it.

…On a related note, I heard a few days ago that on Jersey (Channel Island) car drivers are pissed off that cyclists don’t use the cycle paths. I don’t know what they’re like there but if Portsmouth is anything to go by, they’ll be badly designed, and that’ll be partly why cyclists don’t want to use them.
But of course this is viewed as being the cyclists’ fault 😒
@urlyman Possibly with a rough potholed surface & ending abruptly by funneling the cyclist into the road. Or crossing multiple driveways/bus stops. Or not a direct route a-b but wandering around for "leisure" use. Or the wrong way down a one-way street. Or expecting cyclist to cross a traffic intersection to get onto them. Or beautifully smooth & marked out for 50 yards then disappearing. All these & more where I live.
@annehargreaves yep, we have all these fake cycle ways too
@urlyman @annehargreaves near me they are unkept, full of detritus, often mixed use and utterly unusable at the speed I ride. Most cyclists seem to use the pavements anyhow not helped by cyclepaths migrating from road to pavement and back again.
…Portsmouth sea front west now has a very expensive ‘separated’ 2-lane cycle way but it’s regarded by motorists who have parked by it as a pavement.
The road itself is now one-way, which I can use if heading west, but returning east I’m obliged to enter the zone of everybody being pissed off that a cyclist is actually using the cycle way 🙄
@urlyman yep, can related as a cyclist in London (less so elsewhere) but also as a motorcyclist everywhere but typically with those big metal boxes
