One of the trends that I've seen play out over and over again that's near and dear to my own personal damage:
Whenever tech companies struggle, they look to quantum computing as a source of hype. It works because there's always real, actual progress being made in QC, so it's quite reliable as a distraction when other hype cycles fail to pay out.
One advantage that being blessed to reach middle age brings is that by the time you do, you’ve been able to experience and learn from cycles that take years to play out.
Quantum computing is real, and there's always progress being made, but the hype about QC is almost never real.
Anyway, be ready for a new wave of exhausting "sigh, yes, that's bullshit, but the field as a whole isn't" discourse once AI stops getting investors horny.
