The only threat to humanity that "AI" represents is as the producer of increasing amounts of CO2, e-waste. As a massive polluter and destroyer of our ecosystem.
Everything else is just bullshit.

@tante You are right about the e-waste, but I suspect that the AI mania bubble will crush the worlds economies when it crashes and cause a lot of indirect deaths.

@tante people who control nuclear weapons believing anything it spits out is very dangerous. though the same would be true if trump picked up a Magic 8-Ball toy every day and asked it "should i push the button?" ie it's the power ignorant and deluded people have granted the technology rather than anything particular it does.

@tante I think the other threat is, that some people really stop thinking and outsource this to their "AI" chatbot. and at some point they will simply unable to think for themselves again. I don't if the collapse of our eco system due to "AI" usage will come sooner though.
@tante If you don't plan on ever owning any hardware, don't care about the software you use or someone's job fine.

@tante Sadly I think the bullshit (LLMs as lying machines and an attack on consensus reality) is also an existential threat, because it prevents us from responding properly to any other threat, including climate change.
