Do I want to spend a day listening to a load of people talking about AI and the law?
It could be interesting, or it could be a real mixed bag (at best).
I have rather got out of the habit of going to conferences, and perhaps I should remedy that.
The last one was FOSDEM (which was not for me), but surely there must be something smaller and more local which is up my street.
I used to speak at conferences multiple times a year, and then I just... didn't.
I stopped speaking at conferences for tech lawyers because, well, it just didn't make much sense.
My favourite conferences were the sadly no longer running Eroticon events. The attendees were so eager to learn, and ask questions, and take part. It was joyful.
@neil I really miss the communities around these. I had friends who I'd chat to on IRC for hours and then sporadically meet at irl conferences. It was great.
@neil BSD Conferences are nice. Not too crowded and extremely friendly. And the hallway track is always a joy to live.
@neil yeah, I kinda miss it. I had Genuinely Interesting Stuff to talk about at academic networking conferences 15 years ago, but then I moved into roles that were more about dependability than creativity, and I stopped presenting. I’m sure there’s stuff I do that people might find interesting, but the imposter syndrome is stronger than it used to be.

@neil We have *lots* of people who think they are not "maths enthusiasts", and then they discover than for us, maths is not about sums, formulas, calculations, and equations.
It's games, puzzles, patterns, toys ... I have a video you might be interested in watching to get the idea.

@neil I've read a few descriptions of talks and panels: it's funny how fast "AI" became the domain of professionals.
It's about systems in the making, after all; theories or models of the same systems are incomplete, to put it mildly.
