@Radgryd I like startpage as a product but always been a little sceptical since they’re owned by an ad company. But then, pretty much every search engine is just an ad company. 🥹
@matt NoAI DDG is default. i also set up my browser to be able to search using Mojeek and Marginalia Search. the latter: https://marginalia-search.com/
@peachfiend What makes you try Mojeek or Marginalia over DDG?
@matt Mojeek is really just if i get fed up with DDG (lack of results, not finding what i'm looking for even with multiple rephrasings).
Marginalia is if i want only results from niche weirdos and nerds. it's small-web focused.

I know Kagi has a "forums" filter, which is nice to use to find results just from discussion forums. Found a similar one the other day for forums but it contained reddit and stackoverflow as sources 😢
Reddit was one of the sites I was trying to avoid.
@Matt Vestengen-Cox Depends. I do use the firefox feature to search directly on a specific site a lot. Otherwise, mojeek, ddg, ecosia etc. Disabling the bullshit generation they try to force feed me, of course.

@Matt Vestengen-Cox It's quite nice. Just right click on pretty much any search field, add it to the browser search engines, and assign a keyword. So typing
tmdb skinamarink in the address bar searches themoviedeb.org for "skinamarink".
@harald Oh, that feature. I knew about that. I thought it was something new - that it auto-detected the search box so that you could just search the site (without manually adding the keyword).
Now that would be a nice feature.

@matt so, to tell the truth, on desktop I have ddg set up as my default browser but I often use the !guk shortcut to search. I think after so many years of searching ddg and then searching Google when the results weren't much good, it became muscle memory.
On mobile I have the ddg widget on my home but Google as Firefox's default so it depends where I am.
In short: the deciding factor is, like most things in my life, laziness and disorganisation!
