@homegrown

hopefully meta will destroy itself with greed

@homegrown @theshaunwalker the funny thing is they used to pay us a few thousand a month to post links to outside places and get people talking about them, just a few years ago.

@homegrown a French town council doesn't understand how a "company feature" applies to them, as a public service

@homegrown @timbray and after you pay to be able to post links, they will still make sure nobody will see it in their feed?

@homegrown being able to link outside the network was one of the few positive differences compared to their Instagram platform.

According to that pie, posts that contain a link(s) will get a lot less traction, right? Will paying to use links change that? I guess more #danegeld will be required to get noticed...

I was watching Valhalla yesterday, the English king also mentioned Danegeld :-)

So publishers are valuable to FB, i hope they'll utilize that.

@homegrown We looked back at what my workplace used to do for marketing and stopped doing as Metas products became the more effective way tp reach out. It was a lot more diverse. We really need to link out, since we need to recieve course-applications which is impossible with Meta. So my place of Work truly got baited and switched here.

@homegrown Qué gente más rata, no sé qué carajos sigue haciendo la gente en fachobook.

@homegrown Wow - talk about keeping it in the family...

Interesting. And good job I'm a babe in the basket, meta-wise.

@homegrown Installing Linux, or BSD, running your own website, cloud, and social media server should be part of regular tuition in school. Instead teachers communicate via WhatsApp, and do Zoom meetings... Missed chances...

@homegrown This is THE sign Facebook monopoly is dying, don't worry folks ☺️👍
Whatever the Zuck is doing, it fails.

@homegrown

Seems like a way to make profit from something else than scam ads and fascist propaganda.

@homegrown can you provide your source for the subscription fees and link’s restrictions please ? I don’t see it in the article.

@homegrown

Good.

Do you know how many pages are just online scams instead of legitimate businesses?

Think about all the so-called ductwork, heating, and cooling companies that pop up overnight. Often, it's just the exact same scam company operating under 1,000 different names. People get burned by "Company X," only to hire "Company Y" thinking they'll get a different result.

Or consider how many fake nonprofits we've had to shut down because the profile claiming to be a "local food bank" was actually just some random person in Nigeria begging for cash.

The core problem with pages is that anyone can make an unlimited number of them. Plus, the links they share often push the actual harm off-site, letting platforms claim it’s "not our responsibility." I’ve lost count of how many families, elderly individuals, and disabled people I've seen exploited by fake pages that looked completely official.

This might not stop all of it, but it could put a dent in it. Yes, it might be unfair to people without the tech skills to run their own independent website. Even so, if facebook pages vanished tomorrow, I genuinely believe the internet would be a much better place.

@homegrown "This is many times more than the cost of running your own website, cloud and social media server all put together."

Not if you don't know how to do those things. The cost of either paying someone else to do them or learning to do them yourself is something I rarely see included in arguments like this, and it is not zero for a majority of small businesses
