Every so often, I have the misfortune of collaborating on a Google Doc.
I am struggling to find a way of:
a) keeping tracked changes / "suggesting" mode enabled (so that changes are tracked), while
b) displaying it as if all the changes had been accepted while I can still edit it, so that it reflects my changes as I am making them, but without showing them as tracked.
Any help in achieving this specific thing would be most welcome!
@neil Interestingly, I've been using Google Docs daily for nigh on 15 years, and I didn't know this was an option. I wonder if it's because I've only ever used Google Docs for this, never software that calls it "tracked changes". 🤔
Might also have to do with the types of documents I'm working on. Thanks for prompting me to go searching, and I'm now going to rethink my use of this feature :-D
I found this, and I selected "Preview 'Accept all'", which is what I thought that I wanted, but then I could not continue to edit the document. Does it work differently for you?
(With LibreOffice, in "Track Changes", I can click the "Record" button, to track the changes, but deselect the "Show track changes" button: changes are then recorded, but I see only the "final" view.)
@neil Oh! It turns out the answer is "no, I can't keep editing", even though I could have sworn I'd tested this. Checking it again, I seem to have made up the behavior you wanted
In which case, I don't think there's an option for this in Google Docs. Those bits of the interface (plus the version history) are the only ones I've ever seen relating to suggestion mode. Sorry to have provided false hope. 😔
@neil I think it's called show/hide markup in Google docs, with the caveat that I /might/ be getting confused with MS office.
@neil maybe I'm not understanding exactly what you're trying to do, but does 'File > Version History' show what you're asking for?
It might, but since it is not selectable, I don't know, I'm afraid :(

@neil You can do this by going to "review suggested edits" and change the setting there. This is easiest to find in the Help menu search. (Search for "review suggested edits", select the option and you'll see a modal dialog with a drop down in it:
