So like a whole year ago I was ranting about how corporate red tape was preventing us spending a few thousand euros in hardware upgrades and causing untold tens of thousands in euros in cascading technical issues
Soon after I made that post, the price of ram skyrocketed. So obviously we never got sufficient upgrades. And people are currently posting in the technical group chat about how no-one can log into the shared server they need to do their job because the system is deadlocked under ram shortage.
The moral of the story is "corporations are penny-wise pound-foolish to a tragicomic degree", I guess
I want to scream, we’re having an all-tech-hands meeting about how everyone is having trouble getting their work done because the big central Remote Desktop server we have to use for certain things is overloaded, but we’re being roadblocked by the Corporate Overlord on provisioning more ram, more ssd storage etc.
Thirty highly skilled people having a meeting about how we can’t get two thousand euros in routine maintenance expenses to do our jobs approved.

They cost their weight in gold, so the dev team had ONE board to play with. One £12 chip on it was defective, the RISC core that did the 2D overlays for flight sims. We had a specialist whose only job was writing assembly language for that chip. He went two months without being able to test anything …
