Speaking of religion, is there any religion/philosophy entirely established by women? Not as significant players but more like founders and leaders.

In an undergraduate Medieval art class, was told of an order of nuns who were persecuted as heretics during the Crusades, for daring to have built full-sized, bejeweled cribs for the infant Jesus.
Not as part of a manger scene, but as devotion to what amounted to a baby Christ doll. They were effectively casting themselves in the role of the mother Mary, while emphasizing Jesus as being by his nature, mortal, thus needing of protection and care by an adult.
Or so is my recollection of the matter. May very well be apocryphal, but there was such a crib on display at a city art museum, which myself was assigned to write a paper about, only to turn in a text that declared it wholly uninteresting*. The instructor pulled me aside and relayed the above history to me, in an effort to get me to better appreciate the object.
*Having no relationship to Christianity myself, the object just struck me as a particularly garish example of the ostentatiously vertigo-inducing aesthetics of the era. Without context, it just seemed to me to be a flaunting of wealth.
