You can "I don't want smart appliances" all you like but I appreciate that my new Bosch dishwasher notifies my phone when it's finished.

@thomasbeagle that ability is cool. What's not cool is phoning home regularly to a 3rd party with my information. Or borrowing my internet connection to be part of a proxy farm. Or deciding that it's time to stop working even though the hardware is fine. Etc.
@thomasbeagle actually also not having buttons or knobs and only having a touchscreen also puts things on my shitlist.

Turns out I don't mind the car prioritising touchscreen and voice over physical controls too. I find myself saying "open sunshade" rather than reaching for the button on the roof of the car.
@thomasbeagle @stephen not convinced by touch screen *for crucial functionality* in the car - anything that requires me to navigate menus while driving is unsafe, as it requires my attention and eyes... something I can reach out, identify by touch and actuate is far safer... We have a recent EV with a touch screen and, for comparison, a 34yo manual petrol car... the latter doesn't try to take my attention from my one responsibility: driving considerately & safely...
I reckon a good third of complaints about invasive modern tech are really just "Old man shakes fist at cloud."
Not you of course. Yours are all totally reasonable and based on an insightful analysis of the power relationships between people, governments, and big tech.
Nothing to do with the fact that it was released after you turned 35.
