Watch out super hot fire take incoming are you ready?
If your primary concern is raising awareness around injustice and working to resolve that injustice, that’s woke.
If your primary concern is following rules to separate yourself as a “good person” from “those bad people”, that’s not woke.
The same type of person who thinks it’s about rules lawyering yourself to be perceived as a good person is the person who gets upset when faced with their own internalized bigotry.
That’s the person who gets frustrated and says, “The woke mob is just never satisfied. I can never *be good enough*”
Because it’s not about being good, friend. It’s about recognizing injustice and working to resolve it.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online these people seem to work on a binary: if you ever did anything slightly wrong, your a bad person. That is the crux of the issue and I wonder if bringing that up to those people would help (at least some)
Like, bringing up the fact that an action by itself is not enough, the question is whether you try to rectify it, not do it again, solve the problems and make things better for everyone... I wonder if people would react better or worse when told this directly if they're dealing with that....

@gwenthefops There are some people who take the rules lawyering and weaponize it sure. But be careful not to confuse that with a person who has decided it’s not worth risking their safety to give someone else the privilege of access to them or to a community they’re protecting.
Personally I “protect my peace” aggressively these days. I don’t have time to give everyone 10 chances on things we should all be aware of by now. That doesn’t mean you’re “bad”, I just can’t afford the risk

@danirabbit really boils down to constructive v.s. destructive crit to me and the various motivations that lead to either. A lot of the noise certainly can be cut through with the framing of "Does this raise people up, or does this push people down?"
The only people we ought to push down are those who have provably never had our best interests at heart (predominately people from a privileged sector of society trying to defend their selfish interests).
The enemy of the people are those who would wish to divide the people. I forget who said that, and I can't find the author, but it remains very true!
