I write books on self-hosting. The overwhelming majority of people shouldn't self-host.

(I do think that sysadmins hosting as mutual aid is viable, so long as the sysadmin understands their limits and doesn't overload themselves.)

I view self-hosting more as a reaction to a dystopian tech society, not a solution. It's first aid, not recovery.

Growing your own food is viable for many on an individual level, but the need to do so is a very bad sign. And many would never be able to.

Self-hosting bad, growing own food bad. Ugh.

I love having a little plot of land where I can grow my own tomatoes and summer squash.

I don't want to depend on that for my life.
