Being a woman on the internet is fun. Well, mostly fun.
Getting the equivalent of the pickup guy in the bar as a DM by an account you've not seen before sucks.
*Looks at the account* profile pic of a white guy, with another of him doing an activity. Both probably lifted from somewhere else. Follows a lot of women.
I can't tell if it's a scam bot doing the equivalent of a ping call, or just well some guy doing what some men do on the internet.
Guys.. gonna nae dae that.

@voidandcozy it's so creepy and it gets worse for women and femme presenting folks as more folks follow them.
It doesn't happen that often to me and I'm glad for that. But I've also had creeps in person so 🤷♀️

I always assumed these are bots. Otherwise, that would mean I'm very popular with the military and fishermen.

I've literally had Men who seemed to be in a mid life crisis contact me on Facebook, who were older than me at school.
Like I'm married, but I don't fess up to who and I use my maiden name.
Like if not a bot, I can have a little sympathy. But literally they can go do anything else.
Even if I was single, I'm not going to be romanced on the internet.
The only internet sites where I've not had a few pickup messages were my LiveJournal/Dreamwidth and oddly Tumblr.
Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn had a couple when I was on them.
It's always jarring and I always feel a little slimy after.
It's always guys, specifically straight white guys in their forties or fifties.
I'm just thankful it doesn't happen that often.
