Building the same thing as a closed source product, but making the source available, is not a noble pursuit in itself. The point of free software is that it liberates and democratizes. If you’ve forgotten that, what you’re building doesn’t really matter.

I think this is part of what really irks me about open source software developers adopting AI. You’ve immediately jettisoned freedom 1 and 3, and freedom 2 is now in a legally dubious position. And now why should I even use your software? We might as well just shut it all down and get iPads because what’s the point if you don’t care about building a community of people and serving that community.
