"But I analyzed some logs and doing coke beforehand saved me a TON of time, what do you have to say about THAT!" is a fact-free assertion that I couldn't possibly address logically, it's just meant to browbeat me into admitting that what you are doing is OK, that it's fine to slowly start depending on cloud-hosted full-fat Claude for every aspect of your life. It isn't! I'm not!

@zzzeek @glyph @eevee @hynek “one side refuses to tolerate the other” idk man, this doesn’t feel one-sided to me. i’m extremely tired of telling my peers that i don’t use LLMs because i don’t like it and having them act incredulous and angrily tell me that not using AI is “cope” and that i’m just gonna be left behind. why do so many people feel so strongly (and, again, sometimes ANGRILY) about me not wanting to use it?
@davidcelis @zzzeek @eevee @hynek animosity from the anti-AI camp makes sense. by using it, you're supporting pretty heinous mask-off authoritarians who are openly promising to destroy everybody's job and create a permanent underclass in as many words. certainly there is a fair amount of anger there. but as someone who has made a conscious decision to continue tolerate, engage with, and depend on with communities still engaging in those harms, it is weird to see so much vitriol from boosters
@davidcelis @zzzeek @eevee @hynek like I am a meat-eater and at some point in a less fraught discourse environment maybe I can even explain why I think that's an OK thing to be, but I've never in my life been *mad* at a vegan, or even thought it would be appropriate to suggest that they "just try" some meat.

it's very sad because the community is really going to rift apart pretty awfully in the next few years since one side refuses to tolerate the other
