I have met two kinds of French people this trip:

1. I want to communicate with you. Thank you for making it easier by speaking French.
2. I want to show I am superior to you. I will not speak French with you and I am mad at you for trying to talk to me in my native language.

There have been many more of the first group than the second so far. It helps that my teachers taught me a Parisian accent, back in the day.
