@glyph With authoritarian personalities it's ALWAYS projection, and there's a lot of overlap between today's techbros (who lean towards far-right politics) and authoritarianism. So they're desperately asserting that their LLMs are "artificial intelligence" because that's the only way to be sure of it, by drowning out all dissenting voices.
LLMs exist, sure, but all we've proven is that there's more to sentience than a language model.
I remember some skepticism at the dawn of the internet but I do not remember wild-eyed newspaper columnists clutching my sleeve screaming "it's real, I tell you. email is real! I've seen it! EMAIL IS REAL!"
