Listen, I just think it's weird that the same people who are saying they're worried that AI is going to wipe out humanity are also eager for military contracts that will give AI control of weapons.

@evacide I guess they are maximisers just like their models are. Get the most money for the company and write in mankind’s history “we warned you”. Of course they don’t realise that if things go as the “we warned you” something being written in history won’t matter.

@evacide I’m reading More Everything Forever by Adam Becker that dives into the absolute batshit nonsense these folks believe. Fun read but not sure it helps me understand them any better because it’s all so unhinged.

@evacide I really do wish that the media and etc would at least *admit* that it's all just a big PR stunt to get those investors throwing money at them. I know the media aren't going to try to stop it, nor are they going to stop trying to help, but at least they could admit it...
@evacide They aren’t afraid of AI; they are afraid of the cheap and free models taking their market share. After all, they are still releasing NEWER and BETTER models despite their “misgivings”. The fearmongering is to get the government to regulate in order to raise the barrier to entry and lock out the competition. If the military isn’t allowed to use them, then their lower cost is no longer a threat.
@evacide I mean all know their problem is not wiping out all humanity. It is wiping out all humanity "not how they wanted". The Rapture is all they need.
