I have been struggling to get a partition marked as active so the laptop can boot from it. I know I'm holding it wrong, and would appreciate any tips to get an install booting from the drive rather than usb.
Personally I don't know the commands in 9front to "restart" the partitioning, so I use linux or bsd to wipe the drive clean, then reboot into the usb install. gefs is stable enough to use and is actively being worked on. pay attention to the questions it asks you and it should ask you the correct questions lol. It took me quite a few times before I figured it out, but normally I think it's because the files are in the correct place and reinstalling over doesn't clear out the partitions properly for it to work? I could be wrong here, but give that a go.
disk/fdisk -A name sets partition name to activepartitioning happens in

Wont dd'ing the whole raw device take care of that?
dd'ing /dev/zero to the drive, mostly because I'm annoyed at it.

I found that yesterday, and am slowly working my way through it. It's filled with useful practical stuff.
