"When I created #Raspbian for the #RaspberryPi I was excited to help bring low-cost compute into the hands of a next generation of #tinkerers and #programmers
"However, I now despair that a Raspberry Pi can cost upwards of $300 because AI shortages are making personal computing unaffordable. Furthermore, bright young people are being discouraged from learning programming because they are being told it is now a commodity skill that #AI will do.
"I have to ask myself what it was all for. Is this the future we were promised? If so, I'm starting to regret my part in it."
@peterrenshaw
This is a real shame, there is a lot more to computing than just programming, esp when you get in to things like hardware, interfacing etc, there is a lot more there.
I am trying to set up a new Torbay Linux User Group to try bring people together who are interested, finding it really diffcult to even reach people.
I know there are LOTS of children out there, who are really interested in computing, hardware, websites, coding, cybersecurity and other topics, and they are being held back.
Not aware they are being told that AI will do coding, given the backlash on AI generated code in free / open source projects, we need young people to be part of the discussion / debate.
