Modest proposal: we could end the daylight savings time debate ONCE AND FOR ALL if we just get rid of the Earth's axial tilt! Just think, with a tilt of 0° every day and night would be precisely 12 hours long, everywhere on Earth!
@cstross Is that what "Forever Autumn" was about?
@cstross I have long suggested that a Flat Earth would make scheduling international meetings much easier.
@lauren Ringworld. We need to flatten the Earth and turn it into a ringworld. /notserious
@cstross It does have the advantage of being able to have day and night controlled by those shadow square thingies. Personally, I'd make those adjustable so day/night periods could be altered as desired.

@stevewfolds @cstross Typical engineering shortcut.
@cstross Yeah, let's tilt the big ol' gyroscope! Fun!
@cstross Too normal. Go for 90° tilt but with the North Pole permanently pointed out into space. I'm sure encasing the northern hemisphere in permanent darkness will cause NO PROBLEMS OF ANY KIND.
@abstractcode The Draculas will finally be able to cease their semiannual migrations!
@cstross What would that do to the climate?
@cstross If we stop submitting to Big-Sphere, we could adjust day and night to our taste across Flat Earth.
Also, just make Pi = 3 already.
🤭
@cstross But did you ask the turtle and the elephants how they feel about this?
