At a recent event, Trump was given a gold replica of a deep sea nodule that American Ocean Minerals – a billion-dollar company – hopes to mine from the Pacific seabed.
Just to be clear, the polymetallic nodules aren’t actually made of gold. But a deep sea mining gold rush for minerals would cause untold damage to ecosystems that humans do not even fully understand.
