so apple, the company that admitted out loud it needs people to opt into exfiltrating their data to train Siri AI (as much as you can call a “yes please” / “not now” prompt opt in) or it won’t work, simultaneously released an image tagging system that isn’t useful for identifying generative images in the wild (because it’s proprietary metadata that’ll get stripped as soon as the image is converted for use on the web) but is highly useful for identifying genuine images to train Siri AI on

please don’t tediously reply to this thread with a bunch of horseshit copied from apple’s marketing about how it’s good for journalists or “evidence” when there’s a ton of other technical and non-technical ways to authenticate doctored images, and none of those get fed to the slop machine
