Good morning.
@paulk @smallcircles This is definitely a dwindling quality.
I recently realized that more and more, I’m seeing and hearing people — adults — not take responsibility for something they did wrong.
They’ll blame the circumstances, they’ll blame lack of information, they’ll blame others who either had nothing to do with it or at most were messenger but should’ve relayed more detail (which they didn’t have), etc. Anything and everything to avoid just simply admitting they made a mistake. Which is bizarre wilful ignorance of both reality and inherent human-ness.
Meanwhile, I’ve always admitted the mistakes I’ve made (if regretfully) and have for my teen’s whole life gone out of my way to admit to her when I’ve made a mistake, and duly, properly apologized when it’s been about her. It’s important for people to re-learn, or grow up learning, that of course people make mistakes and that it’s okay to admit it and fix it to the extent we can and just genuinely learn from it and try to do better next time.
