I've been reading about the DCP (digital cinema package) standard.
If you're not familiar, this is the standard distribution format for movies in theaters.
It's an open standard built, built around linux PCs and JPEG2000, with movies distributed as 100+ GB files on ext2 formatted HDDs and/or SSDs.
Now, I'm not an expert here at all. I don't really know anything about DCP.
But one thing I've learned is that if I talk about stuff on the internet, I will frequently come across someone who knows more about that topic and is willing to talk about it.
So if you have any experience with DCP playback on linux on consumer hardware, or building a DCP package using primarily or entirely open source systems, let's chat!
@ajroach42 Almost 20 years ago I knew a guy in the local Linux user group who worked at Kodak, and had had some involvement with that. It sounded interesting.

@ajroach42 I’ve always found it fascinating! Contributing factor to JPEG2000 being a preferred image format for digital image preservation despite the format’s relative failure of adoption in the general computing space.
