I think I was born to be a proofreader.*
I can't remember the last time I read a book that didn't have a typo. I was hopeful with Janelle Brown's "What Kind of Paradise." I saw two possibles, but they could be explained as quirks of the characters who were speaking, including the first-person narrator. But then I found "sixteeen" with three E's.
In the first volume of the Slow Horses books, which I just read, Catherine Standish briefly becomes Christine.

I see them all the time too and it blows my mind. The worst was a Robin Hobb book, and it was so bad I won't read another. It had dragons randomly switching colour and gender, and people with changing names, and a ton of basic errors too.
Then I saw that Jeanette Winterson, who edits Robin Hobb, was promoting Open AI's short stories a few years later and some how felt justified in my decision!
