@meraord I appreciate you saying so. I know most Svenskar are not jerks. It only amuses me this point because it’s been said (mostly online) to me so many times about even the mildest opinion I share.
@Jeremiah Well, personally I see everyone who lives here, who wants to live here and at least plan to get a swedish citizenship, as Swedes. We are of all colors and heritage, just as we were during the first centuries when people first made their way to what later became Sweden: they came from multiple places.
@meraord I love this vision of multiculturalism being something to celebrate and wish more people in Riksdagen talked about immigrants this way.

@Jeremiah What does it even mean to be Swedish? Everybody has their own definition. Ancestry? Ethnicity? Language? Culture? Citizenship? What are we even talking about?
Only citizenship should be relevant in any political context. Unfortunately, even citizenship is being relativised now.

@kallekn One time when I responded with curiosity to someone who said this to me, the person got to the point where the only explanation they could to save face was to say they meant that I would never be ethnically Swedish and they realized how silly that sounded. “I agree. I will never be able to change my DNA. I hope it’s still ok if I build my business and pay taxes here.” I hope that laugh we eventually shared influences the way he votes this year.
@Jeremiah what an asshole. And I do not agree. Even Swedes with Swedish born parents (like myself) will totally critize Sweden's bad policies.

The first time I was told this, I was so surprised and confused. Now, I lean in with curiosity. “I don’t understand. What do you mean?” Sometimes people realize their prejudices when they hear themselves answering.
@Jeremiah He is an idiot. Everyone knows that Swedes use their freedom of speech as they see fit. Unfortunately, he uses his to be mean.
To use his own way of phrase, that's not very Swedish of him.
