I think I will have to put things down a little, to figure out where to go next.

I looked at the NetBSD sets, to see if I can reuse them, and... I might be able to reuse some of them. Probably the easiest thing at the moment would be to have the base, etc, kern-GENERIC and modules sets on one partition1, /sexshop (the store) on another, persistence2 on a third.

The init of the initrd would mount tmpfs on /, then would mount the store on /sexshop (or /shops/sex?), the sets on /netbsd (or /shops/body?), and persistence at TBD, then symlink (most of) the sets to /, so core stuff would be at their usual place. Or perhaps not symlink, but null-mount /bin, /sbin and the like, the stuff where I will not be fiddling with the contents much.

Now, /shops/sex (or /shops/sexshop? name nitpicking is hard!) would not be FHS-like, they wouldn't be symlinked anywhere but /run/current/sw/$blah.
