If you wanted a small bit of good news, some of the moms in one of our local mom groups were talking about their kids that like to wear tails and other bits of fursuiting (not sure any of them know the term). The general sentiment was that it's weird but harmless, so they just go with it. And then they decided to organize a meetup for their furry kids

@jenniferplusplus My daughter and oldest nibling have decided that the collective cousins must be referred to as "the salamanders". They are getting old enough that they don't want to be called "kids" anymore, and they wanted a term that represented not just all genders, but gender fluidity because they'd heard that salamanders can change their gender (said nibling is genderfluid).
I don't have the heart to tell them that salamanders don't generally change genders.
@Azuaron It would seem that at least that one salamander changes gender, though

@masukomi well, this is either the start of what will eventually come to be known as the greater North Texas polycule, or it's just some teens and tweens meeting other people their age they can relate to. Either one seems good to me

@masukomi This doesn't seem like that group. I'm not in it, so I'm getting this 2nd hand from my wife, but it seems like they're much more likely to talk each other down from a freakout, than the other way around.
This started with one mom asking if she should put a stop to wearing a tail, for fear of how adults would treat the kid. Everyone else said their kids only ever get supportive comments about it
