Watching this Apple event tout how iPhones will soon be able to record ambient audio/conversations and transcribe "high level notes" for you. It's billed as private and end-to-end encrypted, but I think the bigger harm is the normalization of always-listening devices. It's creepy and not normal.

As somoeone who's forgetful, the idea of constantly recording and saving ideas is great.
But when I start thinking about the privacy implications even if I dislike the idea of this being a thing
In addition to Meta glasses users, I have to stay away from apple watch users too.

@zackwhittaker what are you on about, when the only good corporations in the world (according to the cult of rotten fruit) does it, it is all good and holy, it is an opportunity for them to hand out the shareholders easy 2k to enjoy this privilege. /S
The normalizing part is what stands out to me too. Even if the processing is private, people getting used to devices listening all the time is a much bigger shift than one feature.
Why doesn't so many believe when I say apple, google, and so many more corporations who bought their own government are evil?
@zackwhittaker i *really* don't think their privacy claims are likely to be true. extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.
on the other hand, i can see legit uses for this, if they were. disabled folks. meetings that take place away from a computer (or if it works better than all the other crappy solutions on one).
on the THIRD hand: needs to be an obvious box with a big flashing light or something; not spy tech. (my watch is a buzzsaw!)
@zackwhittaker I'm not a lawyer, but as far as I know, it's illegal to record other people without explicit consent in Australia.
@zackwhittaker that will help some. My son has interviews from hundreds of bands. He was going to put them all in a book. He hasn't done it yet. Something like that, just might be what someone who wants to do that needs. I'll tell him.
