another bit of bullshit - 4WD, dual motors, 20" wheels etc on the more expensive EVs that have the other features I want make a big difference to driving range, like 50km-100km less

@decryption Many of the features you want are only available if you have the Toyota app, register yourself as a user, and do all their other online nonsense.
I might be the only Toyota owner who doesn't do any of that. I have the BZ4X Limited. I can't use anything that would personalize the car without opting into all manner of crazy surveillance and (in the US) giving up my right to sue.
They are desperate for people to install their app, give them telemetry, and pay for subscription services. Even though I have had plenty of cars in the past that remembered seat positions and such, this one won't do it without the Toyota app and an internet connection.
Amusingly enough, I bought mine secondhand. And, the night I got it, the prior owner was still registered on it. So their Toyota app, if they still used it, had the exact GPS location of my car and they could unlock the doors using their phone, even though I was the car's owner.
I wanted to wipe their profile from the car, but since I refused to install the Toyota app, I had to call in to support. They remotely wiped the car on nothing more than me saying I was the owner and providing the VIN.
Don't get me wrong, I love the car. But I plan to have as much of a relationship with my car maker as I have with my underwear maker. That is to say: none.

@decryption Any different on the subaru version? I've heard generally better things about the subaru version.
(With you on automatic seat memory, it's one of the few modern computerised features I reckon is really good, but so few cars have!)
@projectgus yep, same thing - the 2024 base model Solterra has 18" wheels and no seat memory - the "Touring" model has 20" wheels and seat memory. But the specs say both versions have 485km range (NEDC!) which is bullshit, the 20" wheels are gonna have less range.

@decryption hmm, dunno about this - there's only 0.07% difference in actual tyre diameter because the 18s are 60 profile and the 20s are 50 profile. They've probably done that to keep the actual tyre diameter as close as they can make them.

The 18s with the extra profile will probably ride a bit nicer, I'm generally skeptical of the auto industry's tendency to go for huge wheels. But not sure if it'll make a difference on range specifically.

e.g: toyota BZ4X comes in 2WD and AWD versions. The 2WD version has 591km range vs 517km range for the AWD. The AWD has 20" wheels vs 18" for the 2WD. But the AWD has driver seat position memory, the 2WD does not. The AWD version comes with a glass roof, the 2WD version does not.
I want the 2WD but with the seat memory - but they don't sell that. Very frustrating as otherwise, it is the only car so far that ticks all my boxes.
