On some level I know better than to sound off about this sorrow here, because I imagine I know what kind of response it’ll garner. But I’m watching someone I’ve known for a long time go well and truly off the AI deep end, and you know what? It hurts.
That’s what we don’t talk about enough: the unsustainable shear that opens up between people when they commit to differing visions of our future with this stuff. It’s like losing someone you care about to MAGA – or worse, even: to Q.

@luis_in_brief Less psychosis in this case – though I’ve lost friends to that too – than bright-eyed, bubbly, purely optimistic enthusiasm. It’s difficult to counter without sounding like a judgy dick.

@adamgreenfield I have literally been there. Had to cut them off completely. They were (and remain) too far gone. Spending their dot-com F-you money because they're sure 99% of us will be dead in 10 years.
