DC is patrolled by a large number of specialized police departments.
One that I was not aware of until today is the National Zoo Police. You can imagine my severe disappointment when I saw that the patrol car was not being driven by a uniformed rabbit.
@mattblaze DC has the most police uniforms with jurisdiction of any city in the world. I remember the local paper having a cover with them and my coworkers and I trying to id and remember all of them, back in the 90s ( I want to say the cover had 22, and this was pre dhs or ice).
It's so weird!
That's one of the most bewildering things for us europeans: The sheer wild number, 17985 according to wikipedia, of different police agencies you have in USA.
And that's not counting mall-cops :-)
@mattblaze The one that always got me when I lived in DC was the Supreme Court Police. I always wondered if there was such a thing as "Supreme Court Jail."
@computerchronicles the FBI Police always struck me as redundant.
