At this point I think a year from now the Apple community might not even be on Mastodon. I think it’ll all just go away. People will still be making apps but maybe just writing on their personal blogs? 🤷♂️

@refactoredd I like Mastodon for being small and niche. I follow who I want to here and have it show up alongside Bluesky in Indigo. I don't post often, but when I do, it's a crosspost.
I do think that having a personal blog is almost a necessity now. A space that you can truly call your own. I've enjoyed writing in mine and sharing thoughts and topics that wouldn't be possible at work.
I believe social media as it exists today is mostly a mistake. Everyone thinks they're going to become famous or something instead of just using it as a simple sharing and commenting tool.
The way I see it, social media works best when we present our authentic selves, post links to our blogs or work, and react to each other. Everything else is just noise, drama, and unnecessary attention-seeking.
What we all really need is micro social networks akin to group chats and shared albums. Not these global platforms where everyone just gets angry and loud about everything. They serve their purpose, and shouldn't go away, but I really don't think they should be the primary form of socializing on the web. Look at all the problems it has caused.
I do wonder what Mastodon will look like in a year or two, if it is even still a thing. I personally prefer Bluesky, warts and all.
@refactoredd if by "the Apple community" you mean the handful of white boys who have dominated the sphere for over a decade and keep finding ways to disgust people who look like me from getting involved, then yeah, they'll all be gone, and honestly good riddance is the sentiment that comes to mind.

There’s still a big community of tech fans who are very happy to be here, you could take this as an opportunity to discover more of that community! :-)
