When people point out that a right wing politician is anti-immigrant but married to an immigrant, they think they're pointing out some damning hypocrisy.
But it's actually much worse and more interesting than hypocrisy, which is both boring and universally present in all people.
What they're putting their finger on is a universal quality of right wing pols/leaders that forms the backbone of every decision they make:
A desire to *dominate*.

But all of it is derived from a kind of *ur* bigotry; a pure form of bigotry stripped of its limiting factors. A pure hate of people who do not submit, translated a million ways, cynically, so that the ruler can have an army of willing hate-slaves harming themselves and their neighbors.
Trump doesn't hate any minority group any more than he hates anyone who doesn't submit to him. AfD doesn't hate immigrants; they hate their solidarity, their community, and their lack of obeisance.

I've been thinking a LOT about this lately, because I've been seeing more and more people doing victory dances around apparent right wing hypocrisy, and it shows me that people really don't understand the *why* of the ascent of right wing politics, or how distant right wing pols are from right wing hoi polloi.
This is just my opinion, obv, but I look for common threads that drive behavior and goalsetting, and *Dominance* is the common theme across all right wing political movements.

If you ascribe any other motivation to Trump, for example, stuff gets confusing. You start to convince yourself that there's a deeper thought process going on; is he, in fact, a genius? you wonder.
But the reality is that literally *everything* he does is in search of greater dominance and more public obeisance to his whims.
Sure, he's surrounded by people who are extremely adept at manipulating this impulse into pursuing their own cruel ends through him.

This desire exists outside of any particular target for many of them; the target many right wing leaders choose is a convenience, a shorthand that allows them to corral larger and larger groups of people into both supporting the right wing pol and willingly submitting themselves to be dominated.
And don't get me wrong: there are right wingers who legitimately hate these minority groups, esp when the political tradition has been allowed to exist for multiple generations.
