People talk about crypto and especially its most unhinged manifestation and elaboration, NFTs as antecedents to the current grift FOMO.
But they talk less about Uber, but for toothpicks. Uber, but for divorce. Uber, but for cancer.
The appification of every last, blasted thing, the mad rush to digitalize every last shred of human activity, to intermediate, monopolize, and then monetize the monopolized intermediation. I mean, does anyone remember the pizza delivery arbitrage scheme?
When Intel managed to make Moore's "Law" keep coming true, there at least was something behind the future orientation to it all. But not only has that stopped, while we were still coasting forward on the momentum built up from a half-century of its acceleration, the ravenous speculative land grab has thrown the transmission in reverse, throwing shrapnel all over.
When you get hit by any of it, if you have the temerity to say "ow!" suddenly you're an "AI hater".
