Lately I've been musing on a Web site, or Internet service, having operating hours for ecological purposes. Does it need to be up 24/7?
I just came across this in someone's bio: "Also my server is down during (UK) night because otherwise I don't sleep."
I hadn't thought about the idea from a health perspective.
"The 503 (Service Unavailable) status code indicates that the server is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overload or scheduled maintenance"

@wordsmith it would be a pretty cool trick to be able to setup a small distributed community proxy that serves a minimal read-only (text-only ?) cache of information for many many websites when they are offline, using orders of magnitude less power !
