I'm reading a novel set in Ancient Greece, from which I have learned that a chiton was an ancient Greek tunic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiton_(garment). Coming from a biological background my first association for the word was a marine mollusc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiton.
And let me tell you, the sentence "the damp chiton clung to the curve of her hip" reads very differently if that's the understanding you have of the word.
A great many years ago I found myself with two fellow students in front of a notary as we were formalising a student association.
"It needs a name"
"It's called Student Association"
"That's a description, not a name"
"Oh. What about Medusa. After the life phase of jellyfish."
"Whatever. ✔️"
And then decades later as I was asked for an anniversary celebration I found out at some point the original meaning was lost and now the logo is a multi tentacled ancient greek lady :-)
