May remind that person that #assembly was invented and co-written by a woman and her husband. And she was subsequently scolded for doing so by a man named John von Neumann for wasting so much valuable computing time. Who, I assume, later came around to see the merits. 😄

She is still alive today.

Don't forget Grace Hoper, who invented the idea of programming languages and wrote compilers.
And Lovelace who built the mathematics underpinning the generalization of computer logic, effectively building assembler as a conceptual model ( since she didn't have real functioning machines of note to work with), the base structures of data encoding.

Sadly, I couldn't figure out if she wrote the first compiler in assembler or machine code
