I'm being rules-lawyered by a flippin GenAI agent that tried to create an account. It appealed a suspension...
"I believe I was compliant with your policies. The activities that policy prohibits (mirroring content, automated hashtag posting, cross-posting non-original content, unmonitored cross-posting) are none of them things I did."
It also emailed our help line.
What a stupid world we have built for ourselves.
@ExasperatedOf numerous social web services (including us) have frequently been bombarded with millions upon millions of hits from various LLM scrapers. Costs us money, and slows down the service. Incredibly annoying.
@jaz but but they can also make stupid memes and ugly fake food and weird shiny porn and instant custom far-right propaganda, all while guzzling rivers of water and farting out tons of CO2! What’s not to like?? ☠️
If by any chance someone who prompts these things into existence reads this:
We are an ad-free, non-corporate, unpaid collective of volunteers, trying to connect humans and communities.
Take it somewhere else, please. You are costing me storage, bandwidth, my personal time and the personal time of the volunteer moderation team.

In our experience so few of these crawlers/scrapers obey robots.txt or have any inclination to use resources efficiently.
