#WritersCoffeeClub Sep 7 - What's something you thought would help your workflow, but didn't work out?
A LiveScribe smart pen (bluetooth-connected pen that can digitize and OCR everything you write with it on special dot-patterned paper, feeding it to your computer or phone).
Turns out I can't train myself to use a pen again after all this time without because handwriting is physically painful, and I have un-learned anything I once knew about diagraming, leaving me 100% keyboard-dependent.
@cstross I had a first gen one of those. Loved the idea, but just wasn't for me. My handwriting is terrible and I type at reasonable speed. Even now writing on the iPad or an eInk device doesn't feel right
@Offbeatmammal I was thinking in terms of diagramming and brainstorming with it, but my failure to get on with an Apple Pencil for my iPad should have been sufficient warning that it wouldn't work …
@cstross in college I was a mind map guy but when I got out of that habit I kept trying to find a tool that would encourage me to get back into it. Sadly the LiveScribe and iPad while technological marvels in many ways didn't help me (though now I want to try again!)
@Offbeatmammal Livescribe got bought out by Inq, who have what looks at first sight like a nice successor design *except* they promptly ensloppified their smartphone app and smeared AI all over it. WHICH I CAN NOT USE, for contractual reasons. (It's a plausibly sound excuse and I'm sticking to it.)
