Volvo released a new update for the EX30 (mostly to update the version of android used by it) and they made a minor, but very annoying change to how the car acts when in reverse and long story short it's so annoying that unless it's fixed in the next month or two, I'm probably going to sell it.

@decryption Our newer car is a 2020, which we got after I parked the 2018 in the boot of another car 😭 It’s very similar, the switches for the seat heaters are easier to reach but it doesn’t have the ‘18’s white trim pieces which I quite liked. Also the nav system got chucked on the assumption you’ll just use your phone
Long story - before this update, when in reverse one pedal drive/regen was disabled and "creep" (aka roll like a normal automatic transmission and "auto-hold") was enabled. I could modulate speed in reverse very accurately using the brake pedal. Because my foot was already on the brake pedal I could come to a complete stop very quickly if needed.
Now the car keeps whatever one pedal/regen & creep option you have set in drive or reverse. So when in reverse, the car uses regen braking and auto-hold when stopped and it's so much more difficult to do low speed stuff due to the car wanting to come to a complete stop at low speed - which is great for forward driving and how I like it, but not in reverse.

Oh and the car _still_ has issues with door unlock/lock. It's got proximity detection (via the UWB chip in my iPhone or the keyfob) and lock/unlock car with a capacitive touch sensor on the driver's door. When it works it's awesome, but it's a 50/50 chance if it works. Often I get to my car, want to open it and it just does nothing, so I have to get the keycard out of my bag and tap it against the windowsill to let me in the car. Not fun when parked on a busy road, or in the rain.
I also have to manually reboot the car every 6-8 weeks to get it to recognise my key. It'll let me into the car, then go "oi fucko there's no key" and refuse to let me drive it. How did I just get into the car you fucking idiot?
This is basic car 101 shit and it never worked properly despite multiple updates claimed to have improved it.
However, the driver assist features I see a lot of car reviewers complain about (e.g: "bings and bongs" in Chinese EVs) are great in the EX30. Lane guidance, driver detection, overspeed alerts etc - I have everything set to the defaults and they do not annoy me at all and I don't need to disable them every time I drive off like some people with BYDs, Geelys, MG, Xpeng etc have to otherwise the car is undriveable
@decryption I'm very happy with my 2010 era car, and am seriously contemplating an electric conversion instead of buying a newer car
@decryption OTA updates have got to be the least good idea in the last couple of decades.
@Kels_316 every fucking update they move my cheese, or fix one bug and introduce a new one, or re-introduce old ones they fixed previously - volvo has been making cars for 100 years, come on man
@decryption @Kels_316 Don’t forget the whiplash you get if it even remotely thinks it detects something near a sensor while in reverse. I just want to reverse up my sloped driveway. 🤷♂️

@Kels_316 I drive my dad's 2015 car and I miss some of the nice features (like blind spot detection in the mirrors, adaptive cruise control) I love how simple it is. Get in car, put in key, turn it, put in D, drive off
@decryption @Kels_316 Yeah, my mother gave me her base model Mazda 2 (2010) when she quit driving. Canonical ideal of the car as straightforward tool to do a simple job. Zero bullshit. The son's already put a big ding in it. I couldn't give a shit.
