Tonight's movie night movie will be, "Top Gun: Maverick (2022)." Will be interesting to see if Tom Cruise got any older or not - it's only been 36 years between them.
Top Gun: Maverick is a fun movie and I think mostly better than the first. Air battles are easier to follow, pace and editing more modern, plus it looks amazing. There are so many up close high resolution shots of real airplanes in actual flight that's such a breath of fresh air compared to the pre-rendered video game vibe a lot of action movies have lately. Story-wise they did a good job tying into where the first one left off. It's not a rehash or remake, but the beats are all... familiar.
@bigzaphod There’s also a lot of CGI… https://youtu.be/7ttG90raCNo
@siracusa lots of very good CGI, sure, but also lots of practical effects and very good blending of the two.
@bigzaphod Watch the video, if you haven’t! No real planes in the climactic battle, for example.
@siracusa @bigzaphod Good video. Thx for sharing that. Tom seemed to get a little slippery with the details and exact wording on that clip of him on stage talking about it. 🤔
Oh, and yes, Tom Cruise actually does age, apparently - just very very slowly.
I saw a trailer for a DIGGER (2026) movie, with Tom Cruise being made way way older

The trailer was set to "Money for Nothing", a Dire Straits song, which was interesting in itself.
