Story Concept:
In a far future with the virtual and real worlds are often seamlessly blended our protagonist is excited about her new job with much better pay.
She shops for new work clothes, sets up her new apartment, buys some nice food, but most of all she keeps talking to her high school friend about how excited she is to at last be able to afford a decent ad blocking software for her life.
This is a dystopia where "ad block for your life" is luxury product.

Her friend is happy for her but also worried that maybe she's spending a little too much money.
This leads to an argument about how there was always jealously since they were little kids.
They have a big falling out.
Alone, our protagonist buys the adblocking plan and everything in her life changes. It's so much better and she's a little disturbed to find out just how many things in her life were just ads.
She decides to buy the plan for her best friend too as a gift. To make up.

But when she tries to place the order for her best friend she can't find her.
She doesn't exist.
She was just an ad all along!
