@baldur I think agree with most of it; tho I’m using local models successfully for some programming stuff that is definitely not worth doing myself (for example I needed to convert and restructure some bookkeeping data for our taxes, which is something that my long covid/ADHD brain just refuses to do as a waste of time; so a local model wrote some Ruby scripts for me).

Also I personally know people (who are good at software design) who use it to make custom sofwtare for themselves, and it’s really good software (though they need the hosted models; it could be done locally if Mac Studios weren’t idk $20,000).

I think there’s useful niches for it, and it could be done reaponsibly, but it’s like 0.1% of what people actually trying to use it for.

@baldur Nothing that involves paying a monopolist by the token to create anything is “democratizing,” except to those who think that late-stage capitalism in the USA is the reference implementation of “democracy.”
